It is much to be regretted but St. Catherine’s Pre-school that has operated from the Telegraph Hill Centre for almost as long as the Telegraph Hill Centre has been there has had to close. Over the years hundreds of children have spent a happy few terms with Sylvia, Esther and Pam or, latterly, with Fay, Janet, Marcia and the two Lorraines. It will be much missed and a huge vote of thanks is due to these hard-working staff and also to the generations of parents who gave their time and skills for free, working on the peripheral administration tasks and the management of the pre-school committee.
It was, unfortunately, this out-moded management structure that brought about the pre-school’s demise. What is now a complicated and much regulated business cannot be effectively managed by busy parents serving on a committee for a few terms at most.
However anyone interested should note firstly that there is a desperate need in the area for a pre-school providing this type of short sessional care and secondly that the Telegraph Hill Centre would welcome and be as supportive as possible to any individual or body thinking of filling this gap and re-starting a pre-school on the premises with new management and new structures.
Anyone interested in knowing more should contact Betty on 020 7369 0214.
The Hill needs a pre-school and the Centre needs you!
