TWO PLAYS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!
Shakespeare Unbound – Gift to the future
1623 John Heminges returns to his house on the site of the Globe Theatre with a precious package – the first edition of Wiliiam Shakesepeare’s “Comedies, Histories and Tragedies” which he has just collected from the printer, Isaac Jaggard. Heminges and Henry Condell have spent seven years since William’s death looking through prompt books, cue scripts, plot sheets, William’s own writings, searching through the Tiring House of the Globe and studying previously printed versions of his plays. Finally they amassed an exhaustive collection and working with the Jaggards – William and Isaac –they have produced this wonderful document.
Sitting down to study the result of his work, John Heminges reminisces about his life-long friendship with “Young Will” which had started 36 years before, in the White Swan in Stratford when William was 23 and John 31. Throughout his working life John had been at William’s side, advising him and acting in his plays as well as managing The Chamberlain’s (now The King’s) Men, steering the company of which Will was such an important member, through the troubled waters of Elizabethan and Jacobean politics, organising royal patronage, fending off the tiresome Puritans and threats from the Plague.

Mixer open conference meeting: 30/11/2011

Phone: 07812 638301 Email: boldvision@googlemail.com   Web: http://www.boldvision.org.uk/

Details:
All are invited to the open conference meeting for anyone who would like to get involved or contribute in any way to Bold Vision's new community arts magazine, The Mixer, on Wednesday, 30 November at 7.30 at the Hill Station, Kitto Rd, SE14 5TY. The Mixer is new. It is all about working together. It will be put together by a variety of people in as many different styles as they like. Could you be one of The Mixer’s guest editors and work with an editorial team to create an issue? There can be as much, or as little, practical help as you want. If you would like to guest edit, bring your proposal for format and theme or content and let’s see what happens from there. The Mixer is for anyone who wants to use the opportunity to create something new, something specifically made as a response to Mixing it up: interview with a neighbour, serious jokes, small fry, local or historical insights, drawing invisible boundaries, re-mapping the hill, etcetera.
The Mixer’s emphasis will be on interaction and collaboration, helping people to surprise themselves as much as everybody else. It will open windows and doors, which are now closed. It will take their hill to your doorstep and back. There will be space for news about things happening, especially events that encourage everyone to have a go.
Have you a story to be told in prose, verse, fiction or reportage? Tell it! Or an image in line, paint, digital or film? Show it! The more voices that are heard and points of view aired, the better. Or send in your contact details and proposal to Susan Edwards at boldvisionmail@googlemail.com

Phone: 020 7919 7909 Email: p.austin@gold.ac.uk   Web: www.gold.ac.uk/bigdraw

Details:
As part of the national Big Draw campaign, Goldsmiths is inviting families from the local area to take part in the event from 11am-4pm in its Great Hall.

This year’s event ‘Explore The Big Draw’ will encourage children aged from 3 to 14-years-old to take part in a dazzling array of drawing and storytelling activities led by PGCE Art & Design and PGCE English students.

The children will get to explore a treasure island where they can help 'shipwrecked' PGCE students make rafts and build shelters. Then they can travel across a 'linking bridge' - mapping their journey along the way with poetry and stories - to an exciting city where they will get the chance to help build a new civilisation.

As well as the typical drawing tools of chalk, pens and pencils, the student teachers are planning to make the day as inspiring as possible by using helium balloons, audio/visual equipment and much more.

The 2010 Big Draw event 'Blurring The Big Draw' attracted more than 600 visitors and received the Highly Commended Award 2010 from the Campaign for Drawing in its Drawing Inspiration Awards.

Details:
'Many local residents are worried about the impact of the redevelopment, and are keen to ensure that their concerns are heard by the council. But the planning documents are numerous and complex, and many people who want to respond to the application simply don’t have the time to read them fully. Even those who do have time to read the documents may not know enough about the planning system to be able to write an effective response. So we are holding an URGENT planning objections workshop THIS SATURDAY MORNING at the Albany theatre in Deptford, to provide help and advice to people wanting to comment on this planning application'

Saturday Singing Class - Vocal Stamina & Range Fee: £35.00 Tutor: Maggy Burrowes: 30/07/2011
126B Drakefell Road, SE14 5SQ    1.30–5.30
Phone: 07976 640737 Email: maggy.burrowes@virgin.net   Web: www.vocaldynamix.com

Details:
This class will show you how to adjust your laryngeal muscles in order to maintain a healthy and happy singing or speaking voice - with the added benefit of increasing your pitch range. We will then go on to explore how to coordinate this way of 'opening the throat' with the kind of internal muscle control that gives you direct access to easy and flexible volume. Once fully developed, this skill (also called “projecting” the voice, the “ringing” quality of voice, and “squillo” in operatic performance) in combination with efficient breathing will enable you to produce the loudest possible sung or spoken qualities without straining.

VocalDynamix is designed to help anyone who wishes to develop a conscious, flexible, strong, healthy voice, whether their interest is singing; speaking clearly as an actor or presenter; or freeing their natural voice as part of a healing or spiritual process – or indeed any combination of these elements. The work itself is very practical and accessible, with plenty of suggestions for achieving the level of regular practice that will bring the results you are seeking, and tactics to make practising less work and more fun.

If you are interested in performing it is a good idea to come to me for private sessions and top up your training with the classes, however the classes will cover all the material necessary for your developing skills if private lessons are outside your budget at the moment.

Feldenkrais ® Awareness Through Movement Class – Ongoing Drop-In: 28/07/2011 to 31/12/2012

Phone: 07976 640737 Email: maggy.burrowes@virgin.net   Web: http://www.vocaldynamix.com/index.html

Details:
Feldenkrais stimulates our natural ability to learn better ways of moving, freeing us from chronic muscular tensions that are a major cause of pain and poor posture, and unhealthy movement habits that perpetuate these problems. These lessons are a great introduction and an effective way to experience the benefits the work can provide, including greater flexibility, grace and agility, fuller breathing, relief from pain, better balance and coordination, improved performance in sport, dance, music and drama, and renewed connection with the vitality of youth.

Classes take place on the floor so wear loose clothing, and bring mat.

Early bird booking now open until the 14th February!

Fancy flexing your creative muscles in a music course with a difference? At Brockley Easter Music course, you’ll be singing, playing musical instruments, taking part in a wide range of musical workshops and making new music from scratch, so join us at Telegraph Hill Centre this Easter for four days of musical fun, led by experienced musicians and workshop leaders!

Whether your child plays the bassoon or the bongos, the violin or the vibraphone, or whether they simply enjoy singing or playing the percussion, they’re welcome to join us. If they don’t have your own instrument, they’ll still be able to get involved, and over the course we’ll be creating our own music inspired by stories and fables, with a touch of drama thrown in for good measure!

We start at 10.00 am each day, finishing at 4pm, apart from on Saturday when after a morning rehearsal there will be a 2pm concert. All friends and family members are welcome to come and watch a performance of all the work done during the week, followed by some delicious tea and cake!
